Name: Jan Duker
Age and birthday: 20th August 1688 (32 years old)
Occupation or title: formerly Master Shipwright and Pirate
Birth place: A small village at the Prussian/Pomerian border
Current Location: Tortuga
Character Face Claim: Johan Philip "Pilou" Asbæk
General appearance: With 6.2 feet and a rather strong build he's a rather intimidating sight. Especially since he had groomed quite a few scars during his pirating career.
His brown hair is cut short, his blue eyes were often compared with the deep of the ocean. He once was a handsome man but years within the shipwright and the sailing under a hard environment has changed much of it.
His voice is surprisingly smooth for a man of his size.
Since the shipwreck, he lost his left eye and hopes to get an eyepatch if he ever get's on shore again.
Over the year he collected several scars, particulary at his arms and at his back. A few have already fainted a bit but most of them are clearly visible honours of battles and hard work.
Normally his attire is typical for a pirate, exaggerated, fully emblazoned and totally overdone. He had lost most of his wardrobe when the Devils Fortune sank. Right now he wears the remnants of his former clothing.
He once was a kind man, still is deep inside his hearth.
However around this kindness grew a hard stone durable enough too last 4 years of Piracy. It started to grow when his family was killed and grew even stronger during his time in the Caribbean.
Most of his shipmates know him as the battle-hardened, gruesome man he became, always the first man to board enemy vessels, always the man to draw the first blood and always the man to finish the enemy.
There is the positive side he rarely shows. A good portion of his share never went into Alehouses or Brothels but rather on the streets of Tortuga, helping the unfortunate Street Rats who hadn't the chance to raise on their own.
He also never hurt a man unless in combat. Sometimes this required some self-control, especially around anyone from Scandinavia.
He tries to hide this friendly behaviour behind a wall of stone that just screams 'pirate' it starts with his ghastly manners to his clothing up to his thick accent he groomed over the years just for the act. Sometimes he even forgets if he is the pirate or the shipwright he once was.

Jan Duker was born in the Village of Schiffbruch, a village at the North Sea coast. From the beginning, it was clear that he would take over the trait of his father a skilled carpenter
He grew up in the hard life of the Prussian Province.
He managed well and all the village even scraped some coins to send him to Stralsund where he should learn to expand his craft.
It was this thing of generousity that saved him. While the city was under siege in 1711 the forces never conquered the city. For 10 years he learned everything to become a shipwright with the thought of going to Hamburg or Bremen, taking his family with him.
He came back as a rich man by the standards of the village, repaid the debts with ease in 1714 when the Prussians controlled the region by everything but in name.
His goal was to escape to Hamburg, a neutral city-state with more than enough job opportunities.
Fate, however, had different plans. After two days they meet a Swedish patrol accusing them of spying. Jan was quick enough to escape, dragging his wife on his arms after she was shot with two bullets.
In the end, he was the only survivor, his son not quick enough to evade the bullets, his daughter to weak to continue the travel 2 days later, his wife died from infection 5 days after the incident.
This day he lost everything that was of value for him and he decided to take up a new life.
The ship that should carry him to New York was in rather bad shape and the crew was worse. a pure floating coffin the passengers were not happy at all. There were miscalculations, navigation errors and a cruel crew that disregard the rights of the passengers for their own gain.
Then a disease broke out on board, killing most of the passengers and even more of the crew. By the time they reached the Caribic only the captain, his first mate and 5 sailors were facing 15 passengers who had all endured the hardships of the Northern war.
Even the sailors defected to the mutinies once they saw that they wouldn't win the battle.
The officers were killed, everyone got a fair chance, embarking on Tortuga and escaping punishment or hitting one of the major colonies and getting hanged for mutiny.
That was one of the moments pirates were born.
Most of them didn't survive their first year but Jan was different. He ventured with a few ships over the time, first as a carpenter, later as a full-fledged pirate. He grew accustomed to this new life and learned to hide his true emotions rather well.
His last ship was the 'Devils Fortune'. He had been against the plan to continue after an already successful season, determined to deboard on their next stop. The attack on two large Navy ships proved him right. In the end, it didn't go well and now he's in the well-temperated water of the Caribbean together with a few other survivors.
Against all odds, he would return to Tortuga a month later, dehydrated and in need of medical attention, yes, but still breathing.
He's an above average swordsman and rather well with the pistol.
Anything else: In his four years within the Caribbean he learned quite a few languages. English, French and Dutch well enough for a in deep conversation, his Spanish is lousy at best.
