Our new Caribbean Dawn
community is officially four months old already. To many more years together! Warm thanks to everybody who has made it possible for our writing community to flourish and for the story to get further! I also wish you a happy springtime and
As per the 1-st of May 2018, statistics show that "Caribbean Dawn" has:
Active writers: 11
Active characters: 50
, out of which:Islanders = 29Seafarers = 20Wanderers = 1Men= 23Women = 27
Those who haven’t answered the e-mail sent to them about their activity, were considered as giving up and archived. We do not have an activity rule, neither activity checks, but people who don’t have any online presence, not even replying to e-mails, besides not participating to the stories, can be labeled more as fans than actual members, so we should know we can’t count on them and their characters. If they choose to return, they are warmly received back and they are given the possibility to reintegrate their characters into the story. But the story has to go forward, with as many writers and characters as available at any given moment.
We warmly welcome among us Echo
, who brought to us the French seamstress Calista Marali
, and the return of George
, who brought us a rich heiress, a banker’s daughter, Eliana Havel
, freshly arrived to Port de Paix. Also warm thanks to Sherryl
, who brought us a second character, the midwife Eleanor Eaton
As for thread/ quote spotlight
, the memourable encounter between Sabe
’s characters Sebastien Durand
and Venetia Esposito
, in the thread Moment of truth
is worth highlighted for the most suspenseful
or maybe the congeniality
one:Sebastien could not have been prepared for who soon walked in the door. The shock registered on his face and he was suddenly quite speechless. He finally seemed to snap out of it after she gave a soft chuckle and he stepped forward to embrace the woman. ”Venetia Esposito you sea witch! Here I am sweating that I am about to be turned over to the Governor and it's actually your ship!”
Sebastien. She chuckled at his stunned expression and was not surprised when he grabbed her up into a hug. Lightly she patted his back, having also noted how heavily bandaged he was. ”Sebastien Durand! You French scoundrel. I've worried for you and here you are trying to well enough get yourself killed!”
It is funny, dynamic, well-written and oozing the characters’ personalities. Congratulations!
I am offering my warmest thanks, indiscriminately, to all the crew of “Before the Mast”, and now "Caribbean Dawn", who had been sticking with us and actively writing, so that our story had advanced.A few of our older crewmates, sailing with us for a longer time, haven’t posted in the introduction forum yet, and our new members do not know them. This is something to remediate, as we have now a forum, enabling a new thread for each member, and a questionnaire meant to find common points between newer and older members, and facilitate discussion subjects. So, please open a thread where answering to the introduction questionnaire, and browse the other replies, looking for people sharing any common interests with you. Now the introduction threads can be an open discussion with the others, for strengthening community and friendship among writing partners!
You know also that we need fresh blood of the history-loving, writing
and dedicated kind… I am making an appeal to all of you to bring other friends of yours who are into writing swashbuckling adventures, because the word of mouth is the most powerful way of advertising. Also, I'd like you to tell me which other ways of advertising you consider efficient and how we can get new members, because the truth is that, due to the site becoming way slower, we have remained only the core members writing together for 4+ years. We would need also new blood of the writing and staying kind, and this transition to the "Caribbean Dawn" is the best moment for others to join!
In addition to this, the ones who have blogs, LiveJournal or InsaneJournal accounts, please advertise “Caribbean Dawn” and try to bring new members. Those who have Facebook accounts – please “Like” our page
and spread the word! Those with Twitter
, follow us and retweet/ reblog some of our messages!
Voting daily in the topsites also helps… You can find them herebelow, in the Chronicles, and under the fourth crown above the c-box.
[dohtml]Help us be seen and grow with gaining new valuable members! You can give your contribution to our site’s growth, and you’ll have more people and characters to write with! Each person’s effort counts in making our writing community better, sounder, more active or bigger!

...besides Easter (the Orthodox one being on the 8-th of April), the reason for being busy the whole month is stated below.
Yes, at least April, July and November are those months
focused on finishing a novel or starting another. Unlike November NaNoWriMo, when the target is compulsorily 50,000 words or you lost, in Camp April and Camp July one can establish her own target. And I discovered that for Camps I better edit and polish something already existing than writing something totally new.
Therefore, last July (because last April, not knowing this, I lost, attempting to write something new and failing at 7,000 words or so) I started editing and preparing for publication the first volume of the "Rightness' Friends" now appeared and to be launched on 20-th of April. I won... and it's here. This April's novel is also YA, and it happens in Braila
, the city on the Danube I love the most. The actual crew is a group of teenage cousins and their friends. As you know already, I am not abandoning you. There will be still some posts, even if fewer than usual, in the evenings, after I do my revision quota
. Fortunately, this novel is one volume only!
