We are not the usual sandboxy RPG, neither a narrative-driven one, but a story-focused writing community where each actively writing character can make a difference and an impact on the overall plot. We are collaboratively writing a coherent story with many sideplots connected to it. We also have guides to help you with the time setting, and are more influenced by historical events rather than following them by the history books!
So be ye a pirate, a naval officer, a slave or a lady under our colonial Caribbean Dawn, you will find a place aboard one of our ships or live on a paradise island.
REMEMBER // be respectful
It's the second half of the year 1720 in the West Indies. After a one year direct war preceded by less open acts of aggression during the War of Quadruple Alliance, there is finally peace between Spain, England, France and Netherlands. The colonial plantations and the related trade are blooming, with other crafts following the trend… but for how long? For most rich people, who had invested an important part of their assets in the French Compagnie des Indes or in its English counterpart, the bubbles can mean losing more than they can afford.
Given that all the colonial powers got allied against the common enemy - pirates, who were looting indiscriminately, the wisest pirates knew when to retire and to become plantation owners, smugglers or merchants. So, the privateers remain in the business only for hunting pirates, making their trade more difficult to survive, and the Navies still have what to do. On the sea, ships are fighting storms and other ships. On the islands, life goes on; people work, pray, drink, brawl, party, fall in love or break up. In a world where nobody is what they seem to be, people have their own secrets: spying, smuggling, mercenary contracts, disguises and lies, shady deals, and rivalries.
What happens next? Who will be fighting whom, who will lose how much and how? Whose lovers will weep, and whose will party, covered in expensive gifts? Who will raise from the ashes of the war into a blooming colonial life?
That's entirely up to our writers... and to you! Sharpen your blades, load your guns, drain the last sip of rhum and raise to swashbuckling adventure, spending some time with us in this new CARIBBEAN DAWN!
Welcome to Caribbean Dawn, the third volume in the story that began nearly eight years ago.
When you join this site, you'll become part of a complex story with many side plots and opportunities beyond count. All you have to do, is have an idea for a character that could exist in the first half of the 1700s. Secondly, you just have to register twice. No, that wasn't a typo. You actually have to register twice. Firstly, register with an 'Out of Character'-Account that you can use to participate in the non-roleplay related stuff on the board. Secondly, register your character. Remember to register with your character's first and last name. Once you've registered both accounts, fill out our application and while you await approval, why not update your avatar and introduce yourself to the rest of the crew? When you upload an avatar, remember that you must make it 225x350 in size to fit our board. Finally, once all that is done and you've been accepted, it's time to dive into the story that is Caribbean Dawn.
THE CARIBBEAN GAZETTE
This is where information will be displayed in regards to larger, board-wide plots that occur in our story. It will include a date of the event and which characters may likely participate. It will be displayed by a short summary of the plot and setting and if the plot is supposed to lead to a specific point, such as a sinking of a ship or the finding of a buried treasure, it will be posted here as well. It could be a honours encounter, a vicious kidnapping or maybe a forbidden romance.
♔ Will You Save Me?: A homecoming party for Marquise Claudine, who has just left the Royal Court in Versailles to come and live with her father. This is the first time in 14 years she meets her father Marquis Guillaume D'Avillard again.
