Navy School made him know his place and he obeys orders without much questions or hesitation. However he is not too independent and he is quite sensitive at times, too sensitive considering his high station.
He has learned good manners and he possesses some skills in diplomacy. Still, his self-esteem is not as high as it should be in order to put his talents fully into use. He is a bit shy sometimes, especially with women, given that he had spent too much time at sea or home and too little in social environments.
He does not joke much and he takes things quite seriously. He also worries about his own or his family's matters sometimes, if not often. Yet, he is basically an optimist. He is not afraid of asking help and he is often keen to offer it if he sees it fit. He is a moralist to some extent as well, which has negative sides when he does not want to tolerate people with too different values or ways.
From a professional point of view, he is a responsible and reliable man and his superiors see him as trustworthy. He is often quite energetic and cheerful, but does not joke like mentioned, and he is a good and careful planner.
He is not remarkably brave in battles, but he does his duty, liking more the sailing aspects of his naval profession than the fighting. He loves France and he serves his King with love and loyalty. He would die for his country if needed. He believes in God and prays every night, as any proper Catholic should do in his opinion. He likes going to church occasionally when ashore and whenever the ship's parson is available he is happily present in the sermons.

Julien was born near the city of Bordeaux as the second son of a nobleman. His parents' marriage was unhappy; his father was constantly cheating on his wife. He cared less about the estate and he never paid too much attention to his family, focusing on his escapades in the city, where he could party and entertain his numerous mistresses.
If he paid any attention on his children, it was directed almost exclusively to his eldest son, Alain, who was the family heir. While the father focused on Alain, Julien was his mother's apple of her eye. This caused some disagreement between his parents, and his father became more and more distant to Julien.
His mother and nurses spoke Occitan and Julien thus learned it as well as French that his father (who was from Normandy and moved to Gascony, where his wife's dowry was the estate they were living on) wanted all in the family to speak.
As a child, Julien enjoyed reading and other indoor activities but he was also interested in nature. Since his brother would inherit the manor, Julien needed to find his future and fortune elsewhere. Navy school was the answer, and he was sent there at the age of fifteen.
He was a good student as he liked to study and was eager to please his superiors. But being the teacher's' pet and the quiet, polite and peaceful one among rowdy lads made him the target of bullies. That naturally affected him and he became a more solitary boy, still not really independent.
Naturally, as he grew older, he started to be less sensitive and he began building more confidence, but this was achieved only with time. While in Navy school, he liked mathematics and astronomy. He was not the best student in his class, but he was still very good at those themes subjects he liked.
He got his commission of lieutenant de corvette three years ago. He was sent patrolling the French seas and keeping smugglers at bay.
About one year ago, he was sent to the Caribbean aboard "Loire". This made him dream about unknown places and putting his name on maps of yet uncharted lands, but the truth he found here was different. He quickly got a place on board "Le Phenix", the French flagship, which was a dream come true.
Following the fights against the pirates, he got promoted as second lieutenant and later the first lieutenant of "Le Phenix". This was valuable time for him and he gained good reputation within naval circles.
Now without a ship his merits will help him in of remaining naval commissions.Weapon Skills:
He can use his sword skillfully (but he prefer not to use it if not truly necessary). He has a pair of fine silver engraved pistols. They are the only gift Julien's father has ever given to his younger son. He is not a very good shooter with handguns. Still he is learning that too.Anything else:
